The story of North Country Seed is one of  constant

growth as we strive to meet the ever-changing

needs and demands of the world’s soybean

marketplace.

When acquired in 1983 by the Rabbe family, North

Country Seed (NCS) was a regional seed company,

focusing on Public Seed varieties. In the volatile

agricultural economy of the early 1980s, NCS began

looking for ways to diversify and bring additional value to local grain production. After an extensive survey of the United States soy foods market, North Country Seed situated itself to meet the product quality and transportation needs of the American soy food manufacturer.

Through our unique partnerships with local transportation companies, North Country Seed first made inroads into the U.S. market by guaranteeing on-time delivery to customers on both the east and west coasts of the United States. Return business swiftly followed, as the consistent quality of its products gained the appreciation of quality assurance managers.

In 1996, North Country Seed acquired the assets of the Specialty Plant Products (SPP) division of Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. Through that acquisition, NCS began direct marketing efforts in Japan.

In 1998, North Country Seed acquired the food grade soybean germ plasm base from Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. As a result, Galena Genetics came into being as a wholly owned subsidiary of NCS. Galena Genetics, LLC, a soybean research and development company, is developing proprietary soybean genetics that are being marketed exclusively by North Country Seed to both international and domestic specialty markets. These genetics are bred and selected to meet the exacting demands of both the American farm producer and the soyfood manufacturer.

Galena Genetics features a strong Non-GMO (non-genetically modified organism) breeding program, but also offers GMO varieties appropriate for crushing.

Today, through its relationship with all the Rabbe Companies, North Country Seed contracts for and supplies high quality Identity Preserved soybeans to the world marketplace, and enhances the US farm economy by providing value added products and programs to local farm producers.

Progressive Genetics. Consistent Quality. On-time Transportation. North Country Seed brings the farm producer and the soy food manufacturer together.
